International Buffalo Relations Institute

After almost seven years after the Buffalo Treaty was first signed in the Blackfeet Reservation, MT, in 2014, we are launching the International Buffalo Relations Institute (buffalorelations.land) The International Buffalo Relations Institute aims to raise buffalo consciousness amongst nations by implementing the Buffalo Treaty and its values.

Our goal is to return the Buffalo back to the land by providing knowledge and when possible financial resources to support Indigenous communities as a means to build on cultural and ecological connections with this important keystone species. We wish to take a holistic eco-cultural approach to achieve this goal through initiatives that could be developed in education, conservation, culture programs, while working to transfer knowledge to future generations and sharing that knowledge amongst our nations.

Our buffalo family brings an abundance of knowledge to this initiative through their experience and involvement with The Buffalo Treaty and the Buffalo. Many of them have played a detrimental role in the development and success of the Treaty. We all share a common passion with rematriating the buffalo back into our way of life.
